The warmest of welcomes. My name is Heather Laing and I am an artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. I graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and I've had a career in magazine design and publishing before going freelance when my children were born.
I have always been creative, from as far back as I can remember. Drawing was always a prominent hobby of mine and I would sketch for hours producing small monochromatic landscapes with black ink. During the first lockdown in 2020 I picked up some paintbrushes and discovered colour. I started experimenting with acrylic paint and let my paintings develop intuitively. A time of fairly high stress and anxiety, I realised I could paint to relieve the negative feelings. It was incredible how content and at peace I could be after a painting session. I also enjoyed almost instant results. I could create paintings so much quicker than i could draw. Now I paint almost every day. It is part of my life.
I love nature and the outdoors. I spend a lot of time in my local park but my favourite place to be is in the middle of a forest. My work is completely influenced by the nature around me and the happiness I feel when roaming in these magical places. My style could be descibed as abstract floral. Joyful, uplifting and happy is some feedback I have received on social media! How amazing that people can feel such positivity from something I created! The idea of spreading love around and making people smile inspired me to create this website. As well as original art and prints there are some everyday products to add a dash of colour and help lift your spirits. It is my first step to becoming a full time artist. In 2023 I would love to run some online and in-person workshops and classes focusing on the link between creativity and wellbeing with intuitive and mindfulness painting. If you would like to follow my art journey or are interested in future workshops please follow me on Instagram or Facebook for further information. I would be absolutely delighted to have you along.
